ACPA have launched a protect your PIN website, in response to the increase in "card skimming" fraud at Australian ATMs. All pretty basic suggestions, but they recommend getting into the habit of blocking the keypad even when nobody else is around. The most common way your PIN can be captured at an ATM is by a hidden camera secretly filming what you enter on the keypad. These are fitted to look like a genuine part of the ATM and can be difficult to spot. The most effective way to prevent this is to use your free hand or purse / wallet to block the view of any cameras.

Speaking of which, Dubbo's airport is in the news for having a security PIN taped to a gate. A photograph of the secure entrance showed the code written on a piece of paper taped to the gate. The note, headlined "Gate Access Code," revealed the code and advised people to "please touch pad softly" and "remember code to re-enter." If it's anything like other rural airports you can probably just jump a fence regardless.

There's been a few versions of this rumour recently, with Hoopstar spotting the latest: Commodore will be back with a C64-like all-in-one PC. Essentially, the Commodore Phoenix will be somewhat akin to a "netbook," or a modestly powered but lithe and efficient laptop or compact desktop (minus the monitor, sold separately). At just 17.5 inches wide and no taller than 2 inches at its peak, the Phoenix will have the same small (albeit swollen) footprint of a standard computer keyboard and reportedly consume less than 5 watts. I'm an Amiga fan from way back but after so many false starts from Commodore it's hard to get excited anymore, at least until actual products hit the market.

From Robert: Master LEGO manipulator, Sheepo, has unveiled his latest and possibly most impressive creation yet: a functional Bugatti Veyron that comes complete with a function seven-speed (plus reverse) transmission, working brakes, independent suspension system and a retractable roof and rear spoiler. There's a video of it all, too.

BencdhmarkReviews ponder SSD performance with AHCI vs IDE. Each SSD processor has unique behaviors, with some working well with TRIM and offering improved performance in AHCI mode, while others include Garbage Collection (GC) and work best in IDE mode. In this article Benchmark Reviews demonstrates how SSDs are tested by the manufacturer, and illustrates how real-world performance is different for end-users.

Samsung's 3D TVs will arrive in Australia within days. While the high-end Samsung Series 8 and Series 9 televisions will be released later in the year, the mainstream Samsung Series 7 model is the first 3D television to be sold in Australia. Samsung's Series 7 models are priced competitively, with the 50in Series 7 plasma the cheapest 3D TV available from the manufacturer.

MadShrimps have been playing with an AMD Sempron 140. Let's see what this little puppy can do under air and more extreme cooling : Phase and LN2.

Kosta spotted this Star Trek cologne. Sadly out of stock. :( TIBERIUS Cologne for men is a casual yet commanding cologne spiked with freshness and sensuality. Citron, black pepper, and cedar create refreshingly clear top notes, layered over warm vanilla, white musk and sandalwood base notes. TIBERIUS Cologne for men is difficult to define and impossible to refuse. In any universe. There's a "Red Shirt" one too, which I assume is poisonous.

PCPerspective have more info on the Turbo Mode in AMD's 6-core CPUs. When the processor determines that three or less cores are being fully utilized, it will place the underutilized cores into a lower power, low clockspeed state. In this case the cores will be clocked at 800 MHz and will have their voltage decreased. The other three cores will be placed into a boost mode, with their clockspeeds increased as well as their voltages per core increased.
