The Folding@Home Chimp Challenge is underway! More info here.

Intel have demonstrated Light Peak on a laptop. According to Justin Rattner, Intel's CTO, the current 10Gb / second speeds are just the beginning. "We expect to increase that speed dramatically. You'll see multiple displays being served by a single Light Peak connection. There's almost no limit to the bandwidth -- fibers can carry trillions of bits per second."

It seems nVidia have dropped support for stand-alone PhysX hardware in their drivers. The current PhysX driver unfortunately does not support Aegia PPU hardware which you're already aware. Support for Aegia PPU ended after the 8.xx.xx driver but like you we've receive other users asking to include support in current PhysX releases. There are discussions to release a stand-along PhysX driver that will support Aegia PPU but that is still in discussion and I'm unable to get any confirmation or schedule.

Kosta noticed that Mechwarrior 4: Mercenaries can be had for free. Studio MekTek, in association with Smith and Tinker, INC., Virtual World Entertainment, LLC, Catalyst Game Labs, and Microsoft Games, is happy to announce the release of Mechwarrior4 Free. Getting started is easy. Just download and install MTX, MekTek's free content delivery and updating system. Once installed, simply click the Games Available tab, select Mechwarrior4: Mercenaries and click install. The game will download and install, all within MTX, and as updates become available, MTX will help you keep your game up to date.

More from Kosta, with Senator Conroy saying the internet filter will be reviewed at 10,000 URLs. While Conroy did not reveal the cost of the review, each item of online content that was referred to ACMA cost the agency between $173 and $685 to investigate and classify last year. However, bypassing the mandatory filter is apparently fine. Although Enex expected "technically competent" users to be able to circumvent the filter, Conroy said monitoring circumvention attempts would not be required by the Government.

Intel have unveiled their Moorestown platform, which is the new Atom processor and associated gubbins. Coverage on HotHardware and Tech Report. It's the new Z-Series that is the foundation of the Moorestown platform, and its intended for smartphones. Unlike previous Atom iterations, however, which were designed to scale down into different market segment, Intel designed the Z-Series with smartphones in mind specifically, but obviously the platform can be scaled up into different market segments.

I don't know if this is me specifically or if other people will be in the same boat, but anyway, I got a reminder to re-register for the Do Not Call list. You can register up to three telephone numbers used primarily for private or domestic purposes. It still doesn't appear to apply to faxes though, if the discount-holiday-spamming jerks are anything to go by.

Sniper spotted this impressive video about the next stage of the Apple vs PC war. :)
