Facebook's privacy woes continue, with ad companies apparently recieving private user data they don't want. Representatives of both DoubleClick and Right Media told the Journal reporters that they were unaware they were receiving such data - and stressed that they hadn't tried to make use of any of it. IBM have egg on their faces after handing out USB sticks with malware at AusCERT, thanks mpot. Ironically, the AusCERT conference, named for the Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT) in Australia, is the country's premier information security event, bringing together numerous security vendors and IT professionals from all over the world to discuss trends and showcase the latest security products.
TheReg report that Seagate have another hybrid SSD/HDD on the way. He said that all writes go the hard drive first so that, should the SSD ever fail, the data is still on the drive. The SSD uses single-level cell NAND and Seagate has tested it for five years' worth of use and not seen any loss of performance. It is a second-level cache as there is a 32MB DRAM cache which, Seagate says, improves write I/O speed with the SSD greatly increasing read I/O speed. The caching operations do not require any support from the host operating system, a requirement which derailed the previous Seagate Momentus PSD drives of 2006 and 2007.
