AMD's desktop "Bulldozer" processors will use a new AM3+ socket, thanks dasuperham. Advanced Micro Devices said that its next-generation desktop processors code-named Zambezi will use socket AM3+ platforms, which will be backwards compatible with the firm's existing AM3 products. While the latter is an advantage for the platform, it may be a disadvantage for eight-core processors based on Bulldozer micro-architecture. Some more on the 8-core CPUs here.
Symantec's marketing folk have decided a Norton rap is going to whip the kids into a buying frenzy, thanks again dasuperham. Chorus: I got that Norton.... Norton You ain't heard? I got that Norton...Norton Yeah, you know I got that Norton...Norton You ain't heard? I got that Norton...Norton (Antivirus)[ repeat] Verse: 4.0 that's what I use/ Norton 360, protection you can't refuse/ You should get yourself a copy, maybe even two/ And so on.
Similarly bizarre is this floppy disk self defence, thanks Matt. 101 Weapons for Women is probably a lovely book with plenty of great suggestions as to what can be used as an improvised weapon in case of danger, but I really don’t think a floppy disk belongs among those things.
InsideHW have info on Ontario, AMD's next netbook platform. Meanwhile NVIDIA have new mobile GPUs, with coverage on LegitReviews and TechReport. At long last, Nvidia has a top-to-bottom lineup of DirectX 11 mobile graphics processors. The company has introduced seven new GeForce 400M-series graphics processors, which will complement the company's existing, GF100-based GeForce GTX 480M.
InsideHW have an ultimate CPU roundup. We subjected all CPUs to various types of load, which should outline the differences made by memory controllers, number of cores, frequencies and cache memory quantities well. We tried to obtain motherboards with a chipset as modern as possible, so that CPUs could display all their potential.
