Sunday Aaaarrrrfternoon (15 Comments) (link)

Avast, mateys! Once again it be that most chumbuckety of days, International Talk Like A Pirate Day. So hyaarr I am, the Dread Pirate Aggbeard, with news from across the seven seas!

Firstly, some scurvy dogs have stolen rickbishop's, err, not-so-scurvy dogs. So if you're moored near Mackay or Rockhampton and have seen these dogs, give rickbishop an ahoy. Pet thieves be givin' us pirates a bad name.

Blisterin' barnacles, Dell have a flippy tablet, which is tricky enough to make me eyepatch spin! The 10" screen flips so you can enjoy a touch screen tablet or netbook with keyboard. This Dell tablet features a dual core Intel Atom processor.

Speakin' of spinnin', here's some spacey tidbits: Pluto has new neighbours, the Ozone layer is feeling better and Boston.com have some stunning photos of the solar system. Collected here are recent images gathered from around our solar system, at scales ranging from mere centimeters to millions of kilometers.

Those mangy currs at Microsoft are makin' us test their new browser, which is the internet equivalent of keehauling, surely. Actually, early reports are that it doesn't suck. You be the judge, assuming you're on Vista or Windows 7, and report back hyarrr! There's even a review here, thanks Morsolo!

Captain Conroy has returned a salvo at Commander Turnbull, sayin' the filter has full sails and a strong tailwind. "It has no impact on speed and anybody who makes a claim that it has an impact on speed is misleading people. If you want to be a strict engineer, it's 170th of the blink of an eye, but no noticeable effect for an end user. So there is no impact and the accuracy is 100 per cent."

If you're a land-lubber who prefers wheels to sails, ye pack of skirts, you'll enjoy this new Ken Block video where he goes around and around and sideways and smoking and yarrr, I shouldn't have had all that grog for breakfast. Shot just south of Paris, France in Linas at l'Autodrome de Linas --Montlhéry, this 1.58 mile oval track, built in 1924, features banks as steep as 51 degrees, which is more than double the standard incline of most NASCAR ovals.

AMD's Zacate looks like it could rip Atom's barnacles off, with more info here, thanks dasuperham. Known as Zacate, the new chip was shown giving Intel's much more complex and expensive Core i5 processor a spanking in several popular PC games.

Finally, some folk have forgotten that ye can search OCAU with Google, usin' our fancy-dancy custom search page. Ye can find yer goodies on the main site, or the public-browseable forums, for when the in-built search lets ye down.

And as a special bonus, here's OCAU's Pirate Day mascot:

Ahoy there!

That's it from me, till next yeeaaaarrr!
