Japanese mad lad holicho has surged to the #1 position in MadOnion's 3DMark2001SE benchmark.. with a whopping 21,504 3DMarks. You may be tempted to call shenanigans (especially due to the misreported CPU FSB of 9729 MHz) but he's been doing crazy stuff like dry-ice and liquid nitrogen cooling for ages so I'm tempted to believe it.. here is a picture of the rig used for this latest record. Note the dry-ice cooling of both the P4 CPU and R9700 GPU!

The first private moon landing has been approved. The cost to the public to send something to the lunar surface is $2,500 (£1,600) a gram.

Dave sends word of perhaps Earth's third moon having been discovered. Third?! Earth's second one is called Cruithne. It was discovered in 1986 and it takes a convoluted horseshoe path around our planet as it is tossed about by the Earth's and the Moon's gravity. We've had 2 moons for 16 years?! Nobody tells me anything. :)

Hmm, Java_Boy sent in this ArsForum thread which is vaguely amusing.. except it seems to just be a collection of pictures from around the net tied together by someone into a single story. That "big fan blowing at PC on desk" pic has been around for ages (I think it's even in the PCDB somewhere). A bit of harmless fun perhaps, but those images are still being loaded from various servers around the net and as that story has now been slashdotted.. well, some people who have no idea what's happened could be up for some hefty data charges.

Happy because you got a Radeon 9700, but sad because you have texture weirdness and other problems in DirectX games? ATI have a patch that might cheer you up.

Intel drive another nail into RAMBUS's coffin by confirming (again) they're dropping support for that memory technology in future chipsets. It's a shame, RAMBUS just seemed to be getting interesting again. Intel also announced their 2.6GHz and 2.8GHz P4 Xeon server-class CPU's.

MonkeyReview checked out Antec's trilight LED fans.. and so did we.

Bern says that Nvidia have realeased a new version of their integrated linux driver.

Nigel spotted that the Unreal Tournament 2003 Demo should be out very soon. Only a week or so until the version of Battlefield 1942 is released too, apparently.. mmm, tanks.

Canon accidentally let slip that they have an 11.1 million pixel digicam due for release soon, thanks Locker.

A little more info about the WinXP Security Flaw that is, as noted earlier, fixed by SP1.. thanks Bill.
