The big news of the weekend is that the state governments have agreed on an R18+ games rating for Australia, and it may happen by early next year. All states and the Commonwealth have agreed in principle to the move although NSW abstained from endorsing the proposal at a meeting in Adelaide today. Attorneys-General agreed to support a Commonwealth proposal to introduce an R18+ classification for computer games a move which has been under consideration for more than a decade. Linux 3.0 is officially out now. As already mentioned several times, there are no special landmark features or incompatibilities related to the version number change, it's simply a way to drop an inconvenient numbering system in honor of twenty years of Linux. In fact, the 3.0 merge window was calmer than most, and apart from some excitement from RCU I'd have called it really smooth. Which is not to say that there may not be bugs, but if anything, there are hopefully fewer than usual, rather than the normal ".0" problems.

The ACCC are looking into NBN pricing. THE competition watchdog is to launch a public inquiry into how NBN Co charges internet providers for access to the government's $36 billion National Broadband Network, following industry fears that smaller providers will have to pass on extra costs to consumers.
