MPU 07-Oct-2000 - Page 3

Now, if you run a business selling case modding and cooling gear among other things, you're going to lose all credibility if you don't have one of the most tricked-out boxes around, right? Well, VooDoo from MOS Technology obviously uses his heavily-modified AOpen HQ08 as a big attention-getter and advertisement for the shop - check it out:

That huge wand thing sticking out of the top is a big plasma display thing.. doesn't do much except look cool and attract attention. :)

This box has also appeared in the forums. No way am I going to list the full details here, but in summary: Athlon 1000MHz, 64MB LeadTek GeForce2 GTS, 60GB or so of storage, intake fans over the hard drives, ultra-bright switch LED's, more exhaust fans than I can be bothered counting including a couple of 115V Papst 80mm units running in series off mains power. It also has a nice twin-window side panel, which mysteriously wasn't on it all day. :)

..and if you think this case isn't a killer, look what it did to the mirror and windscreen in VooDoo's Commodore during the drive down from Brisbane (That's right. Drives from Brisbane to Sydney and back for a LAN day..). Voodoo braked super-hard to avoid a wayward roo and the case wanted a go at it itself, throwing off the seatbelt and trying to hurl itself through the front windscreen:

Nobody was hurt except the car.. even the PC survived intact save for a few scratches!

Anyway. Fun was had. I'll definitely try to make it along to the next MPU and maybe we'll even try and hook up some sponsorship or a competition or something. We should have the tshirts and case badges by then.. maybe a case modding competition or a little freebie to the owners of any cool cases we see there. Who knows!

To find out more about Multiplayer United or register for the next event, check out their website. Remember, they're looking for a new venue so drop Bane (Brent) a note if you have info on one that can handle 300 or so gamers once a month. Thanks to MOS Technology for the heads-up about the event.

If this has got you interested in computer case modification, check out our own Case Mods forum full of fellow junkies and quite a few more system photos. Otherwise, jump into our main forums and join the Overclockers Australia community!
