Athlon 64

The Athlon64 processor works quite differently to competitor Intel's Pentium4 CPU as it incorporates an on-chip memory controller allowing for higher bandwidth and lower latency. Athlon64's communicate with the rest of the computer via the HyperTransport Bus which typically operates at 800mhz or 1ghz. They can be found in socket 754 or socket 939 varients and early Athlon64FX CPUs were on socket 940. All Athlon64s are multiplier unlocked downwards, and locked upwards - although the top end FX series are fully multiplier unlocked both upwards and downwards of stock.

As well as the models listed below, there are some dual-core Athlon 64 X2 processors now.
