Some Brisbane geeks have launched a social media rival called Kondoot. Users can "friend" others, just like Facebook, but the main point of difference is the wide range of streaming video options. Kondoot will allow users to broadcast streaming video from home or work live to the world.

Meanwhile Germany has declared the Facebook "Like" button illegal. Saying this contravened both German and EU privacy laws, Weichert demanded websites in Schleswig-Holstein remove the ‘like’ button from their offerings by the end of September or face a fine of up to €50,000.

Apple's Australian boss has tackled "rip-off" claims regarding Australian pricing compared to overseas, thanks Adam. Ed Husic, the member for Chifley, called out Apple in parliament this week and demanded a broader inquiry by the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission into rampant price discrimination by technology companies in Australia. There's something of a geek feeding frenzy underway, with HP exiting the consumer market as reported earlier, and their TouchPads being massively discounted. If you bought one at full price in Australia I don't imagine you'll be too happy to hear they lasted 4 days before being abandoned. HP will discontinue operations for webOS devices, specifically the TouchPad and webOS phones. The devices have not met internal milestones and financial targets.

Meanwhile ArsTechnica have an article about where things are going in the world of tablets. For the first time in fifteen or more years, Redmond faces a genuine challenge to its Windows desktop monopoly. The threat isn't coming from Linux or from Mac OS X or from any other operating system. It's coming from a whole new computing concept: the "post-PC." The worry is that upstart tablets threaten to drive the computer out of the home, taking the Windows operating system with it.
