This example shows a new 1TB drive (/dev/sdd) being added to an existing RAID5 array composed of three 1TB drives. The drive is growing at a rate of 3MB/s (24mbps) and will take roughly 12 hours to complete (estimation not shown in Palimpsest, but appears in /proc/mdstat). Unfortunately Palimpsest in its current Karmic guise does give you the facility to grow the array via the GUI other than add the new drive as a \"spare\" for the array to use in the event of an array member failure. You have to use the mdadm command line tools to grow the array, but Palimpsest can watch its status.
