Useful in deriving an H-Sync and V-Sync signal from a Composite Video signal. Commonly used in PS1/PS2 to VGA cables where the PlayStation provides native RGB signals but not H-Sync or V-Sync lines, so this chip provides them, thus permitting native RGB output at 15Khz from a PlayStation 1 or 2 console that looks great on any PC monitor capable of syncing down to 15KHz (such as an Amiga monitor, and most plasma and LCD TV's). Does NOT work for PlayStation3 because the PS3 does not output any analogue RGB at all (besides, it's got HDMI).
