Back to Mac OS and Mac Hardware

  • Memory (Newer Macs use PC compatible ram modules)
    • SODIMM
    • PC100 Dimm
    • PC133 Dimm
    • DDR Dimm

Notes
OSX will run fair with 256meg of ram, but more memory is definately recommended. And OSX will use it all....just like Linux does...even if it for buffering it will still speed the system up, due to less page filee access.

Earlier imacs 233mhz - 333Mhz (rev a, b, c and d) use PC100 SODIMM (laptop memory) and there is NO definate as to how much ram they can support. Each machine is different it seems.....some take 256meg....some take 384meg....some more. Pot luck it seems.

Later imacs 350mhz - 600mhz use Normal PC100/PC133 Dimms and can support up to 1gig of memory
