Name:

Nick

Location:

South East Melbourne

Occupation:

Systems Engineer

Hobbies:

Folding, Lanning and of late gardening.

Are you married, single, etc?

Engaged.

Does your significant other, assuming you have one, support your F@H activities?

Yes in so much as the cause and electricity bill are concerned, however not so much that I have open access to the bank account for folding hardware.

Congratulations on being chosen the Iron Folder for the month. How does it feel to be chosen by your peers for such a prestigious award?

I feel honoured, its always nice to receive feedback from your peers and better yet to know I’m making a positive contribution.

Why do you think you were chosen?

My winning personality, rugged good looks and pole-dancing skills :D Wait no, I think it has more to do with becoming more active and involved in the team and helping out where I can.

Why do you participate in Folding?

Because I believe that folding will contribute to the finding of cures for any number of diseases and in addition this is one way that I can contribute to that end.

If Folding could find a cure for just one disease tomorrow, which one would it be and why?

Parkinson’s disease as my mother has been diagnosed with it and struggles with the progressive slow decline on a daily basis.

What would you like Team 24, to know about you, that might surprise them?

Not only can I fix your computer, but I can tell you how it works.

Where do you see your folding activities in the next year or two?

Similar in scale to my current setup, though the hardware is always evolving and I really do need a 64 core quad socket machine as a server.

Have you been successful borging? If so, what kind of borging worked for you? (For example, friends, family, and/or work?)

I’m an unsuccessful borger, whilst I work with lots of hardware that is perfect for folding, my employer won’t allow it.

Any ideas on improving the DC subforum, or suggestions or improvements for our Team?

More cowbell :D , but in all seriousness I’d like to get a few challenges up and going, some serious , some not so serious, because I think keeping people engaged with the team rather than just setting and forgetting is the best way to grow the team.

What challenges have you faced in your F@H efforts?

The cost of electricity, my hiatus from folding for a year was due to cutting back whilst my fiancé and I saved for a deposit for the house we built, now its just making sure that my output is reconcilable against the cost of producing it.

How much do you spend on F@H? If you consider equipment, electricity, and other activities that support F@H... how much of your life has DC’ing consumed?

Thousands of dollars, though I’d consider everyone well spent. Time wise of late more so and I’m getting more out of being more involved.

Do you have friends, family, or neighbors that know about your F@H activities? What do they think?

Co-workers refer to me as the uber-nerd when I’m doing competition stats updates during my lunch break, but overall I’ve never had anything but positive feedback when I’ve taken the time to explain what the project is and what it aims to achieve.

Do you game? If so, how long and what types do you prefer? Consoles or PC?

PC gaming, but I have a playstation 2 & 3 just for playing Gran Turismo. Both my folding rigs can be used for gaming, which doesn’t happen often by myself but I lan with a few mates every month or so, so my stats tends to show a drop on the occasional Saturday when I’ll be off gaming.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

I think Team 24 is in the best position its been in some time but it would be nice to make the threat lists of some of the other teams who have passed us.

On behalf of Team 24, I thank you as well for your contributions to this team and I thank you for your time to talk about it. Keep on folding!
