EF 50mm f/1.8

From OCAU Wiki

Back to Photography - Lens Selection

The Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 lens is Canon's cheapest, lightest and smallest lens.

Often referred to as the "nifty fifty" or "plastic fantastic", it's great value for money, and allows you to experiment with very short depth-of-field with a cheap lens.

There are two versions of the EF 50mm f/1.8 lens. The mark I version is more solidly built, and has a metal mount. The newer mark II has a plastic mount.
