Iron Folder Interview

What is your OCAU username & Folding name?

EvilGenius and [OCAU]EvilGenius

What is the meaning or significance of your OCAU username, if any?

None really, just a marvin the martian thing.

Which month and year did you win Iron Folder?

Good question, I'll just look that up.. August 2010.

How many F@H points do you have?

Another thing to look up... As I'm filling this out, 38,965,349.

How many boxen do you have? Break this number down between borgs and your personal machines.

Right now, 3. I also have half the parts sitting around for another which if I ever have money again I'll finish putting together.

When did you start folding for Team 24?

Some time in 2004, although it was under someone else's user name, I didn't know enough about the project to have created my own name and stuff yet.

What is your average F@H points per month?

That depends on how well my boxen behave themselves. The avg of my averages is about 2mil a month.

Any other DC projects?

Nope.

How many boxen do you have running the following clients?

regular client — 0

SMP client — 3

GPU client — 3

PS3 client — 0

What operating system do you primarily use?

All on Windows.

Name:

Evil ;)

Location:

Rockhampton

Occupation:

IT Tech, aka 'the computer guy'.

Hobbies:

Folding is where all my 'spare' money goes, so I guess that's it.

Are you married, single, etc?

Single. Sigh.

Does your significant other, assuming you have one, support your F@H activities?

No, definitely not. Luckily my bank has no say in how I spend the money.

Congratulations on being chosen the Iron Folder for the month. How does it feel to be chosen by your peers for such a prestigious award?

I guess it's nice to be noticed. I don't think I've done anything any other folder wouldn't have done if they had the chance.

Why do you think you were chosen?

Too much free time on my hands :-p

Why do you participate in Folding?

It started out as just something to do, kinda like benching, get as much out of my system as I can. After a while though it definitely became more about the goals of the project. I'm not bright enough to make any meaningful contribution to science via the usual means, so I set my mechanical minions to the task instead.

If Folding could find a cure for just one disease tomorrow, which one would it be and why?

Can I say cancer and have that include all the different types? Please?

What would you like Team 24, to know about you, that might surprise them?

The location of my secret lair. But then I'd have to kill you all, muahahhaha.

Where do you see your folding activities in the next year or two?

That depends on the finances. I don't see a pay rise in my future so I'd have to say more of the same. I'd love to get in on this 2600K bigadv action though.

Have you been successful borging? If so, what kind of borging worked for you? (For example, friends, family, and/or work?)

Sadly, no. It's not really a possibility either at home or work.

Any ideas on improving the DC subforum, or suggestions or improvements for our Team?

Sure, just not sure if it's legal to form a vigilante group and install F@H on every high end machine we find...

What challenges have you faced in your F@H efforts?

None really, apart from the financial kind, not having as much money as I'd like to spend on hardware.

How much do you spend on F@H? If you consider equipment, electricity, and other activities that support F@H... how much of your life has DC’ing consumed?

Time wise these days is pretty easy, my boxen are reasonably set and forget apart from the occasional hissy fit. Money wise, pretty much if it doesn't go into living or family it goes to folding. Lately that hasn't been as much as I'd like it to be, but you get that.

Do you have friends, family, or neighbors that know about your F@H activities? What do they think?

Pretty much just you guys. Most of my local friends or family look at me cross eyed when I refer to anything technical or relating to online activities, so I don't bother any more.

Do you game? If so, how long and what types do you prefer? Consoles or PC?

Not so much any more. I have satellite internet at home which is far far too laggy to game on. The last time I did have internet worthy of the name I was playing BF2. I still have that installed on my laptop which I play single player on if I get desperate, but if asked I'd have to say no, I'm not a gamer.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

Where's the Kaboom?

On behalf of Team 24, I thank you as well for your contributions to this team and I thank you for your time to talk about it. Keep on folding!
