Talk:Moving Out Of Home and General Advice on Renting

From OCAU Wiki

Pretty good but you need to add one more very important point. After you have handed over your bond and got the keys do the "Entry Condition Report" right away before you move in anything. Best to do it during the day when there's plenty of light. The landlord will have already done an inspection and should give you a copy of it for you to fill in your bit. Go through everything very carefully. Usually the agent will have just ticked all the "clean" and "undamaged" boxes unless there is anything really obvious. But you will be the one who will have to pay for repairs and cleaning if you don't put it on the form at the begining of the lease. So take your time and do it thoroughly. It should take you a good hour or more to go through a 2 bedroom apartment. In addition to checking for damage and marks on walls check for dirt and grease inside ovens, tops of cupboards, inside dishwasher, inside light fittings (often lots of insects there) toilets etc. If it aint spottless then put it in writing on the form. You'll be glad you did when it comes time to clean up and move out.
