Iron Folder Interview

What is your OCAU username & Folding name?

Teddy2 (used to be Teddy but with the server crash of 2001 somebody beat me to the name) Folding Name: Teddy2(OCAU)

What is the meaning or significance of your OCAU username, if any?

Nickname by workmates

Which month and year did you win Iron Folder?

June 2010

How many F@H points do you have?

Around 68,000,000 when I last looked.

How many boxen do you have? Break this number down between borgs and your personal machines.

Running about 4 personal machines well 3 really one is my partners that I built for her.

When did you start folding for Team 24?

August 2001

What is your average F@H points per month?

Geez good for 1 million a month I reckon?

Any other DC projects?

Used to do Distributed Folding, you could cache work & upload when you wanted, good for when the net went down. The project finished a while back now + you could run it when the Folding @ Home client was uploading so no wasted CPU cycles.

How many boxen do you have running the following clients?

Regular client — 0-2

SMP client — 4-5

GPU client — 4-6

PS3 client — 0

What operating system do you primarily use?

Windows 7/XP

Name:

Mark

'Location:

Canberra

Occupation:

Fedral Public Servant

Hobbies:

Folding, Computers, Home Theatre, Badminton

Are you married, single, etc?

Defacto

Does your significant other, assuming you have one, support your F@H activities?

Absolutely!

Congratulations on being chosen the Iron Folder for the month. How does it feel to be chosen by your peers for such a prestigious award?

Recognition for all the blood, sweat, tears and money I have spent over the years!

Why do you think you were chosen?

Long term contribution & general helpfulness.

Why do you participate in Folding?

Gaye lost her father to cancer, her brother-in-law to cancer & her niece to Rett’s syndrome. I also have a father and a mother-in-law both with alzheimers.

If Folding could find a cure for just one disease tomorrow, which one would it be and why?

Alzheimers because it is long slow journey and affects so many people around them. It is a horrible thing to witness.

What would you like Team 24, to know about you, that might surprise them?

I like ABBA & KISS music as well as daggy 70’s disco music…

Where do you see your folding activities in the next year or two?

Possibly scaling back a little with Folding & trying to make it as efficient as possible, I used to run 12 computers at one stage as well as a Dual Core laptop 24/7.

Have you been successful borging? If so, what kind of borging worked for you? (For example, friends, family, and/or work?)

I had the odd friend do Folding for a while, family are not too interested, work well I work in the government and everything is locked down at work.

Any ideas on improving the DC subforum, or suggestions or improvements for our Team?

Competitions are always a good idea, we need to get the rewards going again. If we can get somebody who had the motivation that Martin (Bollocks) put into things that would be great but so far nobody has stepped up to the podium.

What challenges have you faced in your F@H efforts?

Heat, equipment failure, shock when I started getting the big power bills.

How much do you spend on F@H? If you consider equipment, electricity, and other activities that support F@H... how much of your life has DC’ing consumed?

Far too much that I care to add up. equipment upgrades are fun and ongoing.

Do you have friends, family, or neighbors that know about your F@H activities? What do they think?

Crazy to spend so much especially the power bills that I get, but its a hobby, sorry addiction. I tried to stop & was going to reduce my effort when I hit 50 million points, it did not help.

Do you game? If so, how long and what types do you prefer? Consoles or PC?

Used to play driving games, flight sims, train sims, now the only games I play are on the Ipod touch/Ipad.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

I think I have given away enough…

On behalf of Team 24, I thank you as well for your contributions to this team and I thank you for your time to talk about it. Keep on folding!
