Aaron reminded us that it's SysAdmin Day today! Let’s face it, System Administrators get no respect 364 days a year. This is the day that all fellow System Administrators across the globe, will be showered with expensive sports cars and large piles of cash in appreciation of their diligent work.

AAPT have confirmed that hackers have taken customer data in protest against the data retention proposals. AAPT CEO David Yuile told Fairfax Media the security incident occurred at 9:30pm on Wednesday. He says the ISP is investigating the breach and will contact affected customers. There's earlier story with some other details here.

Gabe Newell has declared Windows 8 a gaming catastrophe, driving Valve to embrace Linux. Newell is not a disinterested third party. Valve makes money from the commission it takes on Steam sales. Windows 8, with its built-in Windows Store, challenges that revenue source. There's a new religion in Sweden, based around file sharing. Kopimism - the name comes from a Swedish spelling of the words ''copy me'' - claims more than 8000 faithful who have signed up on the church's website. It has applied for the right to perform marriages and to receive subsidies awarded to religious organisations by the state, and it has tried, thus far unsuccessfully, to buy a church building, even though most church activities are conducted online.

Supplanter noticed the Humble Music Bundle, which is like the game bundles we've seen before, but with DRM-free MP3 and FLAC music from several bands. You choose exactly how much of your purchase goes to support the musicians, as well as the Child's Play Charity and the Electronic Frontier Foundation, two non-profit organziations doing great work in the world.
