Microsoft have a new ad for Internet Explorer, taking aim at people who have hated it in the past.
Still on videos, Sabretooth spotted this smartphone control mode on the new Canon 6D SLR. Neato! And now we have finally got our hands on Canon's latest, "cheaper", full-frame DSLR. With the name "6D", it fits in slightly below the 5D Mark III. But is this Canon's answer to the D600?
Meanwhile Australian users may be being charged for mobile data they haven't actually used. Vodafone confirmed the issue affected them. Optus said it had not seen examples of the issue but that in some instances data usage may be affected by a customer's data session being interrupted, while Telstra advised that it had protocols in place to protect overcharging but wouldn't guarantee they worked 100 per cent of the time..
Macronix have proposed a self-healing NAND flash memory that can survive over 100M cycles. They redesigned a flash memory chip to include onboard heaters to anneal small groups of memory cells. Applying a brief jolt of heat to a very restricted area within the chip (800 degrees C) returns the cell to a "good" state. They said that the process does not have to be run all that often.
Dell have a laptop aimed at Linux developers, the Dell XPS 13 Developer Edition. The laptop comes with Ubuntu Linux 12.04 LTS plus a few additions. Dell worked closely with Canonical and the various peripheral manufacturers to ensure that well-written, feature-complete drivers are available for all of the laptop's hardware. Out of the box the laptop will just work.
The UN will be making big decisions about the Internet soon, with a more up to date story here. Government regulators from 193 countries are in Dubai to revise a wide-ranging communications treaty. Google has warned the event threatened the "open internet", while the EU said the current system worked, adding: "If it ain't broke, don't fix it."
Parents are increasingly naming kids dumb things, in news that surprises nobody. Parents are increasingly naming their children after Apple, as well as associated products related to the brand including 'Mac' and 'Siri'. Out of the three aforementioned names, Apple witnessed the largest increased in the baby name charts for girls, consequently jumping 585 positions; it was up by 15 percent when compared to the previous year. Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin, for one, named their child Apple. No source listed though, it seems.
