The MS Walk & Fun Run is on this weekend. Dallas from OCAU is taking part and you can donate to support him via the link above, or take part yourself. He sent in this video from his brother in law showing the effects that MS had on his life. A good mate of mine's mother suffers from MS also, it's a terrible disease and I'm sure every dollar helps. MS Australia aims to minimise the impact of multiple sclerosis on all individuals affected by the disease, as well as their families, carers and the community, by offering a wide range of services, equipment and support. MS Australia's goal is to assist everyone affected by MS to live life to their fullest potential and secure the care and support they need, until we ultimately find a cure.

A TV commercial for a video game has been banned in Australia - odd, because the game itself hasn't. The Board, ultimately, saw differently. The board considered the facts: The ad is, indeed, for a violent video game (rated R in Australia), the violence is presented in video game context, and the ad was shown during a television program aimed at mature audiences. AIE released a statement saying the company was "sympathetic to members of the community who had been affected by suicide", and assured the Board it had not meant to cause offense.

Here's a worklog for a high-flying Raspberry Pi. I was pleasantly surprised by how well the other balloonists collected almost all of the image packets. Remember that my payload had 2 radio transmitters, meaning that people had to choose which one to listen to (unless they happened to have 2 receivers). Also I was using a fairly high baud rate which limits the range, but even so there were listeners in Northern Ireland, Holland and France contributing!

NVIDIA have a press-release about their GPUs helping make a breakthrough in HIV research. UIUC researchers uncovered detail about the capsid structure by running the first all-atom simulation of HIV on the Blue Waters Supercomputer. Powered by 3,000 NVIDIA Tesla K20X GPU accelerators -- the highest performance, most efficient accelerators ever built -- the Cray XK7 supercomputer gave researchers the computational performance to run the largest simulation ever published, involving 64 million atoms.

The back-door internet filter debate continues, with another agency blocking websites - but they won't say who. DBCDE deputy secretary Abdul Rizvi said on Thursday that a total of three federal agencies were found to have used the powers to block website access, after a meeting was held on May 22 between 12 federal agencies to determine the scope of the issue. Attorney-General’s Department secretary Roger Wilkins later clarified that the third agency was a “national security matter" but refused to name it.
