Acquisition positions Facebook to accelerate growth into the forum space
MENLO PARK, CALIF. - March 31st, 2014 - Facebook today announced that it has reached a definitive agreement to acquire OCAU Pty Ltd, the leader in immersive forum technology, for an undisclosed sum. The agreement also provides for an additional earn-out based on the achievement of certain milestones.
OCAU is the leader in immersive forum technology and has already built strong interest among developers, having received several orders for development kits for the company's forum headset, the Ocaulus Thrift. While the applications for forum technology beyond general discussion are in their nascent stages, several industries are already experimenting with the technology, and Facebook plans to extend OCAU's existing advantage to new verticals, including communications, media and entertainment, education and other areas. Given these broad potential applications, forum technology is a strong candidate to emerge as the next social and communications platform.

OCAU's Ground-breaking Forum Headset
"Mobile is the platform of today, and now we're also getting ready for the platforms of tomorrow," said Facebook founder and CEO, Mark Zuckerberg. "OCAU has the chance to create the most social platform ever, and change the way we work, play and communicate. Also, they keep appearing in my type-ahead when I look up stuff for Oculus VR so it was easiest to just buy them too."
"We are excited to work with Mark and the Facebook team to deliver the very best forum platform in the world," said James Rolfe, founder and CEO of OCAU. "We believe forums will be heavily defined by social experiences that connect people in magical, new ways. It is a transformative and disruptive technology, that enables the world to experience the impossible, and it's only just the beginning. Also, with the money involved I can get some new tyres for my car, and maybe a takeaway."
OCAU will maintain its headquarters in NSW, Australia and will continue development of the Ocaulus Thrift, its ground-breaking forum headset.
Edit: April Fools, obviously. :) I can finally take this thing off!
