First up, news from Paul that Microsoft will be crippling MP3 support in WindowsXP, unsurprisingly enough in favour of its own digital audio standard. Info on TheReg.

There's a lot of jumping up and down about the KT266 chipset at the moment and specifically the MSI K7T266 Pro motherboard. This chipset of course is for DDR SocketA motherboards and competes with AMD's 760 and ALi's MAGiK 1 chipsets. Some of this I have linked before but let's get it all in once place. AcesHardware were first out with a review back on the 3rd of this month which showed the KT266 slightly faster than AMD760. TomsHardware's review on the 9th and AnandTech's here on the 10th both found the reverse to be true. AcesHardware's explanation is that the shipping BIOS is really slow and flashing to a newer one gives you up to 17% more memory bandwidth. OCWorkBench seem to feel it's an actual design fault with early revisions of the board, on their news page they detail their lack of success from flashing an older board - someone modifying their board by moving a resistor improved performance. Chainbolt has his own theory (not necessarily one I share) here and here in our forums. The plot thickens..

Eski points out an interesting addition to some of the IBM HDD problems that people are reporting. This person claims a faulty pin (due to stress) on the power-plug was to blame..

OCOnline have their CeBIT coverage posted. Europe's biggest computer fair..

The usual interesting/weird stuff on ZZZ Online.

Digit-Life have a guide to digital photography of water. I had fun trying to get my Nikon to focus on the jets of water in my cool-computers radiator review. Thank god for manual focus.. :)

Hmm, Widefault has some cool stuff happening in his computer room, thanks Stuart.
