From Jaren: Non-volatile integrated Quantum-Optical RAM? I found a website claiming gigantic amounts of storage stored in what looks to be an optical silicon of some sort. Their websites are here and here. They are supposedly at CES 2005, more info here. Their own two websites are very poorly made, using what looks like pictures taken with webcam or a very cheap digital camera. This patented technology boasts 128MB/square millimeter on a 20 micron slab, accessible at 0.6ns, which is Really Fast, considering light goes about 30 cm in 1ns through air. HowStuffWorks shows more evidence of its existence and a quick google search brings up more results every hour. Their prototype laptop is a 4 ghz cpu with no less than GPS, GPRS, WIFI, bluetooth with every immaginable input and output, from modem and lan, to firewire and usb 2 and TV /VGA out. This machine also has a 100 Gig solid state hard drive/ ram, with up to 18 hours of on time and it probably is almost instant on with .6 ns access time. This technology uses the Glendin Effect, described on their website. I want some of that action....

Meanwhile, a company called InPhase Technologies claims to have holographic storage well on the way.
