MadOnion.com, makers of the 3DMark series of benchmarks, have had a countdown running on their site for a few days with a mysterious message saying something big is coming and it's not a new version of 3DMark. They've now updated that statement to say it's a new benchmark called PCMark2002 and by the current count it'll be available for download in about 20 hours. We already have a 3DMark2001SE mirror and I'll set one up for this new benchmark, too.

Digit-Life have an article comparing how dual systems using AthlonMP's or Pentium 3's compare in 3DSMax, a 3D-rendering package.

P4-Mobile performance seems to be pretty average even compared to the mobile P3, according to ZDNet. Business Winstone 2001, a testing suite for computers running common office applications, found the 1.7GHz Inspiron 8200's score of 38.4 to actually be behind that of its 1.13GHz Pentium III-M-based predecessor, the Inspiron 8100, as well as lagging behind Hi-Grade's desktop Pentium 4-based Ultinote M6400--although this did have the benefit of 512MB rather than 256MB of RAM.
