NASA has given up on finding the fuel gauge problem that cancelled the last Shuttle launch, and will just go ahead and launch it anyway this time. Oh alright, it's a bit more complicated than that. Meanwhile, the USA has committed to send men to the moon, and to Mars, approving President Bush's grand plans for space exploration. Both House and Senate bills also endorse a servicing and repair mission to the Hubble Space Telescope. Exciting stuff.

Microsoft have a new website for their long-awaited successor to Windows XP, "Windows Vista", previously known as Longhorn. Hexus have some thoughts about the upcoming O/S.

HardOCP looked at the new ForceWare driver for NVIDIA-based video cards, particularly looking at the new SLI anti-aliasing feature. For example, video card 1 would render 4XAA, video card 2 would render 4XAA, and both cards combined would deliver 8XAA in your game.

Xbit spotted a new Pentium M CPU on sale in Japan. Intel Pentium M 780 processor operates at 2.26GHz at full power, contains 2MB of L2 cache and sports 533MHz processor system bus.

The PhysX "physics processor" will be coming to a PS3 near you soon, according to a new deal with Sony. Seems an odd time to be adding major new features to an already-announced product.

A few people pointed out this apologetic message from EA regarding the buggy nature of Battlefield 2 and the two patches to date. Towards the end of August, we will be releasing a new patch called 1.03. This patch is currently underway and will undergo thorough testing to avoid the problems that have occurred in the past.

Microsoft have a Virtual Earth website, competing with Google Maps. Sadly it doesn't have anywhere near the level of detailed zoom available for Australia that Google Maps does. Lots of place names, though.

MS have also filed for a worrying patent, thanks Timbot. Methods and devices for creating and transferring custom emoticons allow a user to adopt an arbitrary image as an emoticon, which can then be represented by a character sequence in real-time communication.

Phoronix looked at GeForce 7800 GTX support under Linux, while FlingingSquids examined performance scaling using a 7800GTX and some high-end CPUs.
