Shuttle Atlantis Launch (0 Comments) (link)
 Saturday, 9-September-2006  23:30:15 (GMT +10) - by Agg

The Space Shuttle Atlantis is due to launch in just under two hours from now. The hatch into Atlantis' crew cabin has been sealed for flight following the strapping in of all six STS-115 astronauts inside the ship. Commander Brent Jett and his crew are now setting switches and bringing the orbiter's systems online as the countdown to an 11:15 a.m. launch ticks on.

With this mission, NASA is ready to get back to building the International Space Station, marking the first time in almost four years that a space station component has been added to the orbiting outpost. ... During their three spacewalks, crew members of Atlantis will install the P3/P4 integrated truss and a second set of solar arrays on the space station, doubling the station’s current ability to generate power from sunlight and adding 17.5 tons to its mass.

You can keep track of things by watching NASA TV live over the net, as well as reading the mission blog and this forum thread.
