Google have posted on their blog about a possible competitor to Wikipedia called Knol. A knol on a particular topic is meant to be the first thing someone who searches for this topic for the first time will want to read. The goal is for knols to cover all topics, from scientific concepts, to medical information, from geographical and historical, to entertainment, from product information, to how-to-fix-it instructions.

Craig spotted an official response to the Eve Online boot.ini issue. It might appear from the installer log that we made the mistake of explicitly deleting \boot.ini instead of just boot.ini. The former would delete the file from the root of the current drive whereas the latter would only delete from the current working directory. It is not quite so; the mistake was to assume that the file would be deleted from the current working directory without giving the full path.

Santa may know if you've been naughty or nice, but so does your dad. If you've been telling your parents exactly what you want for the holiday season (and think there's a fair chance you'll get it), don't go doing something silly that will get you in trouble, like... oh... getting caught smoking pot on your dad's patio. Such behaviour is likely to result in your father taking the copy of Guitar Hero III for Wii that he'd bought for you, and selling it on an online auction site, to teach you a lesson.

MadShrimps have a DDR2 Memory Roundup posted. In this second part of our DDR2 roundup we continue our stress test with a DFI 680i based board. Find out how different nVidia's 680i chipset clocks your ram in the following review, and see if the latest memory kits can threaten our previous champions.

AMD had an Analyst Day recently - PenStarSys have their thoughts, as do Tech Report. Meanwhile Scott spotted some new ATI cores on the way. The new R680 consists of two 55-nm processor cores with CrossFireX support sharing the same specifications of the RV670 processor at the heart of their Radeon HD 3870 -- thought to be AMD's best product of the year. The RV620 and RV635 GPU cores are nearly identical to their RV610 and RV630 processors only in a new 55-nm form.

Bit-Tech have a custom acrylic case project which turned out pretty well. By carefully blending smoke and clear acrylic, he's made a case that stands out in places, disappears in others, and provides a unique visual presence everywhere you look. As Luciano says himself, "I didn't want a fishbowl."
