Craig spotted this new battery research going on at Stanford. The lithium is stored in a forest of tiny silicon nanowires, each with a diameter one-thousandth the thickness of a sheet of paper. The nanowires inflate four times their normal size as they soak up lithium. But, unlike other silicon shapes, they do not fracture.

From Tarrith: Johnny Lee's been at it again with his Wiimote. This time he's been working on Head Tracking, his results are nothing less than jaw dropping VR! Nuf said. C'mon all you developers THIS ROCKS. Make something of it! BFM spotted a YouTube video, too.

OC3D have a shootout between the XFX 8800 GTS 512 and Asus 8800 GT 512 G92-based video cards. I look upon the Nvidia naming conventions with some concern nowadays. Far from being clear we now have 8800 GT (G92), 8800 GTS 640 or 320 (G80), 8800 GTS 512 (G92), 8800 GTX (G80) and 8800 Ultra (G80).

DDsD spotted this article about the evils of Facebook. ATI Catalyst Drivers v7.12 were recently released, thanks John. Phoronix looked at the Linux ones. This month, the ATI Catalyst 7.12 Linux driver (formally, what is known as fglrx 8.44) brings a host of new changes, mostly in the form of bug fixes.

PCMech want to tell you about Windows Slipstreaming, as do PCApex. For example, do you have an old Windows XP installation CD? How could you somehow combine Service Pack 2 in with your original installation disc to create a hybrid Windows XP SP2 installation CD? Or perhaps you want to combine several drivers, patches and other updates into a single installation procedure.

Bit-Tech have a carbon-fibre case mod worklog. Carbon fibre is not an easy material to work with, particularly when it's already been treated with resin - at that point, you'd better bring your demolition equipment. But, beggars can't be choosers - and though Ediejo had a lot of work ahead of him, he's never been one to pass on an opportunity to create a new, unique project.
