There'll be a "new kid on the block" on Mars soon, with the Phoenix Lander making its landing later this month. Unlike the rovers, which were hunting for evidence of water at points along the Martian surface, the Phoenix lander knows exactly where to go to find water. To reach it, however, the spacecraft must dig down below the surface.
Meanwhile a Seagate 400MB hard drive that survived the Columbia shuttle accident has recently had 99% of its data recovered. After the reentry, Berg says, when it was not immediately recovered, "we assumed that it fell out of the cage and burned up and that was it." But engineers from Johnson Space Center had actually found the apparatus in the hanger at Kennedy Space Center where workers had laid out the Columbia debris, says James Myers of the Glenn Research Center in Cleveland, the project's lead engineer.

DriverHeaven checked out a few processors from AMD. It has been some time since we reviewed an AMD processor on Driver Heaven, but quite a lot has happened since then with the release of various CPU revisions, as well as triple core, the 780G chipset and further energy efficient Athlon models. So today it is time to catch up with the current range of AMD products starting with the Phenom 9850.
Apparently there's a MacGyver blockbuster film on the way! The question is...do you bring back Richard Dean Anderson as old MacGyver, or bring in a younger, Christian Bale-type to reprise the role of makeshift gadget god?
Starstrike is a new game being developed by an OCAU person. It's still in the Alpha stage but some comments in IRC were quite positive, so it's probably worth checking out. Starstrike is a Real Time Strategy Game (like Command & Conquer or Warcraft). Matches are played on interior maps, on the decks of a ship adrift in space, its crew killed by the alien infestation. On most maps and gametypes a squad of Marines faces off against a brood of Aliens somewhere on the dead ship, but support for Marine-vs-Marine and Alien-vs-Alien maps and gametypes exists.
