From Ashton: CHOICE has a report up about how Australians are paying too much for technology compared to the US, even after factoring in shipping and other costs, citing examples such as Microsoft Vista, Apple's Time Capsule, and Call of Duty 4 among others. AirQ sent in this article which looks at carbon nano-ribbons and how chemists at Stanford University have developed a new way to make transistors out of them which could be used to make cooler and faster computer chips. Professor Dai's group succeeded in making graphene nano-ribbons fewer than 10 nanometres wide, which allows them to operate at higher temperatures. "For graphene transistors, previous demonstrations of field-effect transistors were all done at liquid helium temperature, which is 4 Kelvin [-452 Fahrenheit]," he said. "People had not been able to make graphene nano-ribbons narrow enough to allow the transistors to work at higher temperatures until now."

TweakTown look at the new ATI Catalyst version 8.5 drivers and how they perform under XP and Vista. This month, looking through the release notes for the latest incarnation of Catalyst drivers we see that a few performance increases have been promised. … We'll see if these performance increases translate to any of the games we use.

TrustedReviews have a Far Cry 2 preview. At the moment, the PC version has a few visual bells and whistles that the consoles don't, including more realistic and dynamic explosions and more striking fire effects. However, you will probably need a Crysis-ready rig to play it; the demo version was running on a quad-core, SLI system.

Overclock3D compare two motherboards based on Intel's new 'Eaglelake' P45 chipset − the Asus P5Q Deluxe and the MSI P45 Diamond. While the Asus P5Q Deluxe is not from the pinnacle of Asus' P45 releases, not being labelled as a ROG (Republic of Gamers) board, it is pitched as a high end board aimed squarely at the overclocking enthusiast. The MSI on the other hand is at the top of the pile, being labelled as a Diamond Gamers board, hoping to lure you in with its premium features.

SRI International, an American research and development institute, has developed new technology which allows some robots to climb walls. Von Guggenberg said that the new electrical adhesive technology called compliant electroadhesion, provides an electrically controllable way to stick machines to a wall. Since positive and negative charges attract, SRI researchers induce negative charges into the wall being climbed, while at the same time imposing positive charges in the robot, using an on-board battery source.
