Thanks to Matt for this one!

Anandtech have an introduction to virtualization. There's no denying that virtualization is changing company's server rooms all over the world. It is promoting both innovation and the preservation of aged applications that would otherwise not survive a migration to modern hardware platforms. Virtualization is completely redefining the rules of what can and cannot be done in a server environment, adding a versatility to it that is increasing with every new release.

With the release of Intrepid Ibex imminient, Cnet have procured screenshots from the final release. This latest installment of Linux for desktop computers and servers strives to be easy to use, a tough challenge given the complexities of Linux. Ubuntu comes with a variety of applications, including OpenOffice.org (though not yet new version 3.0) and Gnome's Evolution software for e-mail and calendars.

A mobile phone based on Google's Android platform is set to be released in Australia by Christmas. Ruslan Kogan, 25 - who has been selling cut-priced Kogan-branded TV sets, GPS systems, DVD players and other gadgets over the internet from his base in Elsternwick for the past 2½ years - says he will sell the phone from December 15 for $199. Kogan said his Google phone would look similar to the iPhone in that it would be a touch-screen device with no built-in keyboard. He said it would include WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS and a trackball to aid in navigation.

However, it appears that the Google Android operating system is vulnerable to a drive-by exploit. Google was notified of this issue on October 20th, 2008.

Microsoft have announced that they will be providing online versions of their popular office suite. These will be "lightweight versions", but Microsoft told us yesterday that they'll still have rich functionality and will be comparable to Google's suite of online office applications. The apps will enable users to create, edit and collaborate on Microsoft Office documents through the browser. The apps will work in IE, Firefox and Safari browsers (no word on whether Google Chrome will be supported).

Microsoft have also lifted the lid on several Windows 7 features. Microsoft has been very secretive about Windows 7. While it has let leak scant details about how touch functionality will play a critical role in the new OS, more information on how the new OS ticks, and its general feel have been scarce. The Windows team has been using a blog to let out information on the new product, but the stream has been more like a slow trickle, with few concrete explanations of features.

A new FPS warfare game, Rising Eagle-Gaza, is pitting Iranian troops against Israelis. A Sydney-based Jewish businessman bankrolling a shoot-'em-up warfare game pitting Israeli troops against Iranians says the aim is to "throw out a challenge to Iran" after its President vowed to wipe Israel off the map. It is available as a free download here.

Here's an interesting website that contains instructions to build weaponry out of common office supplies. Later that week, people came in to thank me. Some even brought chocolate. But most of them wanted to know where I had bought that fabulous gun. I showed them how it was made. They were thrilled and from that day on, we haven't had a single boring presentation.

With Halloween just around the corner, it's time to drag out the Zombie shooters again. The Last Stand and its sequel pit you in a battle against time to escape the zombie hordes.
