Quite a few people sent word that the iPhone 3.0 software is out now. Simon has details: All that people with iphones need to do is plug in their iphone to an updated version of itunes, then click on their iphone icon, click update, and the rest is handled by the itunes software. Also, the software is 230.1MB. Works fine on mine. More info here and here.

AMD have a very limited edition TWKR CPU. Very little is known at this point in time, about this chip, beyond the point that it will provide better clock-speeds compared to the Phenom II X4 955. Discussion here.

NASA launched the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter last night. LRO will go into orbit around the moon, turning its suite of instruments towards the moon for thorough studies. The spacecraft also will be looking for potential landing sites for astronauts.

ZDNet report on a new hard drive technology called HRD. DataSlide applies technology in new, patented ways to achieve unprecedented high performance 160,000 IOPS & 500MB/sec and low power <4 Watts for a magnetic storage device. Three years or more away, though. Discussion here.

Meanwhile WD have officially entered the SSD market, using technology from SiliconSystems who they aquired earlier this year. SiliconDrive III SSDs include 2.5-inch Serial ATA (SATA) and Parallel ATA (PATA) and 1.8-inch Micro SATA products featuring native SATA 3.0 gigabits per second (Gbps) or ATA-7 interfaces with target read speeds up to 100 megabytes per second (MBps) and write speeds to 80 MBps in capacities up to 120 gigabytes (GB). IntelInside spotted some free anti-virus software on the way from Microsoft. The US software giant described MSE as "a no-cost anti-malware solution that provides consumers with quality protection from threats including viruses, spyware, rootkits and trojans."
