TomsHardware have a detailed article about overclocking the Core i7-980X. Ultimately, Gulftown is a 32 nm processor, just like the Clarkdale-based Core i5s, which have shown amazing overclocking capabilities. Even with six cores, it should be possible to accelerate the i7-980X up to where it easily beats Intel's other offerings without consuming excessive power. Quite a lot of this going on in this thread and elsewhere in the Intel Hardware forum.

Meanwhile Anandtech have more info on the upcoming six-core Phenom II X6, thanks Sean. Officially branded the Phenom II X6, AMD won’t be launching these processors until some time in the future. But today AMD is disclosing some basic details about the parts. We’re also mixing in our knowledge of internal AMD roadmaps to paint a clear picture of AMD’s 6-core strategy.

FatMan350 sent word that heatsink manufacturers are being sued for allegedly violating a heatpipe patent. FrozenCPU is not alone in this fight, along with it, many other companies have been named: Altima Computers, CoolerGuys.com, CPUTopia, FrontierPC.com, IntraCom Holdings, LinkDAT, Marlin P. Jones & Assoc., NAC Group, OutletPC.com, VelocityMicro, Cybertron International, American Future Technology, Silicon Mountain Holdings, and Raidmax Tech.

There's anger in the UK about a recently approved digital piracy bill. Former minister Tom Watson had argued it would be a "catastrophic disaster" if the bill was passed as constituted. However, the bill was approved by MPs by a majority of 142 votes and it passed through the Lords on Thursday. Some ISPs have said they will refuse to comply with the new law. More info here, thanks Kosta.

Mozilla have a new Firefox Lorenz beta available for testing. Firefox “Lorentz” takes the out of process plugins work from Mozilla Developer Previews and builds it on top of Firefox 3.6.3. This beta offers uninterrupted browsing for Windows and Linux users when a problem causes a crash in any Adobe Flash, Apple Quicktime or Microsoft Silverlight plugin instance. If a plugin crashes or freezes when using Firefox “Lorentz”, it will not affect the rest of Firefox.

Google have added site speed to website rankings. You may have heard that here at Google we're obsessed with speed, in our products and on the web. As part of that effort, today we're including a new signal in our search ranking algorithms: site speed. Site speed reflects how quickly a website responds to web requests. Quite a lot of chatter about this on the net - I've made a discussion thread here.

enigma spotted some rumours about NVIDIA's GTX460, the little brother of their top-flight card: here, here and here. Noteworthily, there won’t be a standard design of GeForce GTX460 – instead, the AICs have their own design rights. If things go well enough, the GeForce GTX 460 will make its debut on June 1st, with a similar price to Radeon HD 5850.
