A war of words is underway between The Australian newspaper and Senator Conroy. Today The Australian fired back at Conroy, publishing a slew of stories attacking various aspects of the NBN and rejecting the Minister’s claims about its lack of integrity.
Boingboing have footage of a next-generation prosthetic arm. It's a big deal, because it provides a level of small motor skills that hasn't previously been available in prosthetic limbs. The browser speed wars continue, with Mozilla saying Firefox 4 is faster than Chrome, thanks dasuperham. For the first time, Mozilla’s “Are We fast Yet?” charts are showing the combined Firefox TraceMonkey and JaegerMonkey build to be faster than Chrome in Webkit’s Sunspider test. Firefox is listed with a time of 350.8 ms, Chrome with 356.5 ms and Webkit with 369.7 ms.
The domain sex.com has sold for $13M USD. The price is among the highest ever paid for a domain. In 2006 when Escom bought sex.com it is thought to have paid up to $14m for it. The highest price ever paid for a domain was $16m, which marketing firm QuinStreet paid for insure.com in 1999.
NASA have released a report about the balloon mishap in April when a launch from Alice Springs went wrong. The scientific payload inadvertently separated from a mobile crane being used for the launch, and it was dragged approximately 150 yards by the airborne balloon. Spectators narrowly escaped injury when the payload hit an airport fence and a car.
Slashgear report on an expandable PCI-E SSD controller. This is sort of a combination of normal SSDs and PCI-E SSD storage. The incremental awesomeness as the maker calls it comes when you add more of the firm’s expansion cartridges. Those cartridges add more storage capacity and increase the speed.
