The 2010 OCAU Secret Santa is now underway! The deadline for receiving your deposit will be 30th November, hopefully this gives time for people on monthly wages to join in. Don't forget that you have to pay $30 deposit and $30 on a gift so if you need to be able to afford $60 plus the cost of postage until your deposit is refunded. It is in your best interest to send your gift via registered post so that you have proof of sending. In the event that your Secret Santa does not receive their gift if you cannot prove the gift was sent they will be given your $30 deposit in lieu of their gift.

You might remember ojk007's thread about building an internet broadcast studio - he's now added a video which is quite interesting. Before anyone jumps in, yes, this is heavily inspired by both Revision3 and TWiT. The studio itself is very similar to the early TWiT studio. My budget is absolutely shoestring for what I am doing, so there is a unique blend of both brand spanking new shiny equipment, and gaffered up drawers.

On less of a shoestring is the world's new fastest supercomputer, in China, having recently topped the Top500 list. The US still dominates, with more than half of the entries in the Top 500 list, but China now boasts 42 systems in the rankings, putting it ahead of Japan, France, Germany and Britain.

GoN report on grumpy retailers threatening to stop selling games with bundled Steam. Major retailers, both physical and also online, have come on record and voiced concern that Valve's digital download service Steam is killing the PC market and they won't stand for it, threatening not to sell titles if publishers do not remove Steam integration from their games.

LegitReviews compared GTX 460 and HD 6870 in CoD: Black Ops. The hype around this first person shooter has been enormous the past few months, so we know that our readers are wanting to find out what video card brand will run Call of Duty: Black Ops the best. Today, we take the GeForce GTX 460 1GB and run it against the Radeon HD 6870!

Meanwhile HWHeaven compared GeForce GTX 580 OC vs 6870 OC CrossFire vs Radeon 5970. Each of the cards will be tested in a selection of the latest games including Call of Duty: Black Ops, F1 2010 (DX11 Patch) and Fallout: New Vegas with the latest patch

Collaborative programming site GitHub recently had an embarrasing reminder to keep production and test environments separate. Before every run of our test suite we destroy then re-create the database so that we have a known, clean starting point. This also allows us to continuously integrate topic branches with potentially different database schemas. Due to the configuration error GitHub's production database was destroyed then re-created. Not good.

There's a minor online revolt in response to a bomb threat tweet and subsequent prosecution. On January 13, a week after the post, Chambers was arrested and questioned. The case file notes that "there is no evidence at this stage that this is anything other than a foolish comment posted on Twitter as a joke for only his close friends to see", but he was charged and convicted in any case.

Today's (second) timewaster is this simple but fun Bubble Shooter from TonyR.
