From Amfibius: OCAU's Iron Chef Christmas is open for entries between the 4th and 12th of December! Show off your tasty creations. Whose cuisine will reign supreme? Discussion thread here.

NASA's big news conference was about a new form of life based on Arsenic instead of Phosophorus. It's still here on Earth though, and not the "Alien Life" everyone was expecting. But it does mean a much broader scope for our understanding of what life needs to exist. Some commentary here on Gizmodo and discussion here.

NBN Co has refined its product range after consulting with ISPs. She described in detail the NBN Co's thinking on the fibre products, which would launch with "eight key speed tiers" and four traffic classes. The starting point for fibre services would be 12 Mbps down/1 Mbps uplink. Other speed tiers included 25/10, 50/20, 100/40 and eventually 1 Gbps/400 Mbps.

Tech-Report checked out four 7200rpm notebook drives. SSDs may be the new hotness, but 7,200-RPM notebook drives are a more realistic option for most laptop users. We round up four of the best.

Sniper spotted this Tron Light Cycle you can ride around in real life. Until you reach a corner. Jeff Halverson of Parker Brothers Choppers states that each bike is wonderfully constructed with a steel frame, fiberglass bodywork and a V-twin engine from a Suzuki TLR1000. Braking power comes from custom made friction drums which help keep the bike true to the latest Light Cycle designs to appear in the film.

IBM have had another chip breakthrough, thanks dasuperham. The new technology, called CMOS Integrated Silicon Nanophotonics, is the result of a decade of development at IBM's global Research laboratories. The patented technology will change and improve the way computer chips communicate – by integrating optical devices and functions directly onto a silicon chip, enabling over 10X improvement in integration density than is feasible with current manufacturing techniques.

Dasuperham also sent in this article on AnandTech about Micron's ClearNAND. The idea is simple. Instead of placing the burden of dealing with increasing error rates on the controller, Micron will internalize the problem and equip each NAND device with an ECC controller.

BnH also pointed out that Google Maps Navigation for Android was launched recently. To get the latest release of Google Maps with Navigation, search for 'Google Maps' in Android Market.

Today's timewaster is Snow Storm from BnH. Didn't really grab me but you might like it. We don't have many timewaster sent in, so if you've got a favourite web game, send it in to news@overclockers.com.au!
