It's been a week for corporate shuffling, with Steve Jobs stepping down, and a new President and CEO for AMD. More here. AMD announced today that Rory P. Read, formerly the president and chief operating officer of Lenovo, will be the company's new CEO, starting immediately. He will also serve on AMD's board of directors. Also, CmdrTaco is leaving Slashdot.

Razer are launching a switchblade laptop for gaming. Razer has hired some impressive talent, including the team behind OQO, and engineers from Apple, Dell, and others. They've been operating in stealth mode for three years, working on a number of projects that were ultimately canned for not meeting Razer's standard. The Razer Blade is going to be the team's grand coming-out party, and it's certainly a standout product in the gaming PC market.

TPG have bought IntraPower, making the move into cloud computing. TPG has offered to acquire IntraPower for $12.8m in an all-cash bid of 30c a share, more than double the target's closing price of 14c on Wednesday, the day before the deal was announced.

IBM are building the world's biggest data store. The 120 petabyte "drive" - that's 120 million gigabytes - is made up of 200,000 conventional hard disk drives working together. The giant data container is expected to store around one trillion files and should provide the space needed to allow more powerful simulations of complex systems, like those used to model weather and climate.

If you've got a Crucial M4 SSD, this firmware upgrade might interest you. In a nut shell, this is a great firmware update from Crucial as visible improvement is shown in any and all tests conducted. The only downfall is that Crucial hasn’t discovered a simpler Windows based solution for the update.

From HyRax1: I've been waiting to get this video posted - a very apolitical presentation from Peter Ferris of NBN Co, mythbusting the NBN. Engineering students will love this one - it gives some good proper technical info about the NBN - what it is, how it's built and how it will work. It also covers general info busting the common media-pushed FUD and how much it will cost, etc. Many political arguments against the NBN are totally obliterated by Peter's presentation. Despite being nearly an hour long, it's not tedious and quite eye-opening. Many questions are answered. Discussion here.
