Current Models

Ipods must be synced through either itunes, or adapted software such as winamp. Ipods have not developed the 'drag and drop' software, such as other mp3 players. So you must always add files using the same computer.

iPod Shuffle

Shuffles are small, lightweight Solid State Drives (SSD) designed for extreme portability. Shuffles do not have a screen and instead rely on a few buttons to adjust sound and playback controls. Their battery life has a good 12 hours, and they are pretty much unbreakable. The current generation (3rd) ipod shuffle relies on 3 small buttons on the headphone cord to adjust the settings of the mp3 player. This means you must use the apple stock headphones, or pay for an aftermarket adapter. Shuffles come in a 1GB and 2GB capacity and do not have a screen.

iPod Nano

Is the most popular mp3 player currently on the market. They come with a 2" screen and currently the 4th generation comes with either 4GB, 8GB, or 16GB capacity. The 5th generation Nano will come in 16GB and 32GB capacity and will come with a built in Camera. The SSD means the ipod can be subject to a lot more force, an issue which developed with the 'classic' models, when the spinning disc cracked. Notable features of an ipod nano include a built in accelerometer. Allowing you to 'shake' the ipod furiously to make the song playlist 'shuffle'. The feature works when the hold button is on (skips the current track), and can be turned off in the settings menu. The nano has build in features such as Picture Viewer, Calander, Contact list, notes, stopwatch etc that must all be synced through itunes.

iPod Classic

Is the oldest style ipod containing a 120GB HDD. The Hard Disk is not a SSD, meaning it is subject to cracking if put under a large amount of force. The classic comes with a 2.5" screen and has a much longer battery life than the rest of the range. Due to the larger disk, longer battery life and bigger screen, the classic is larger in size. Latter models include video playback.

iPod Touch

The touch is essentially an iphone, without the phone functionality. A large touch screen, with 16GB or 32GB capacity. Has built in wifi, calander, contacts, better games etc.

watching video

The easiest way to 'shrink' movies for the ipod is to using freeware Handbrake and select which model ipod you have. Then sync the video with itunes.

Where to buy

Don’t buy from ebay, these are usually fakes/stolen or do not have the appropriate warranty. A fake will not sync with itunes. Only buy from authorized resellers. Apple have been clever in Australia, only allowing a 6-8% margin in profit for stores. This means all ipods in the country will be sold in a ~$10 price range of one another. If you find a price less than that, it is probably a fake.
