Date  17th June 2004 Author  Gibbon Editor  James "Agg" Rolfe Manufacturer  VIA Technologies Features Continued, Usage Here's the 600MHz Eden low voltage processor, bared to the world: The processor is an EBGA package, which cannot be upgraded as it is connected directly to the motherboard. The VIA CLE266 northbridge chipset. The VIA VT8235 southbridge chipset. You can also see the BIOS battery just to the right. The fairly small (by modern standards) passive aluminium heatsink used to cool the Eden processor. When I took it off, it had a small smear of white thermal grease underneath. It's held on with two push-pins, and is very similar to a passive northbridge heatsink you might find on many full-size motherboards. The northbridge and southbridge share this larger passive aluminium heatsink. Again, it had a small smear of white thermal grease underneath for each chipset. Apparently that capacitor just had to be exactly in that spot - which makes it a little difficult to get the heatsink off with a twisting motion. The fins on both heatsinks are aligned such that a fan placed alongside could draw air across both. I thought this was pretty cool (OK, maybe I don't get out much!). Usage: I installed and tested two operating systems on the CL6000E for this review - Windows XP Professional SP1A, and IPCop 1.3.0.
