Guys ... Seems we can get Optus@home come the 4th of next :D
Question is this .. There are 2 different modems supplied by Optus right ? (USB and whatever else) .... I have been told that the USB modem is a pain in the ass to share and with whatever the other one is it becomes much easier.
The plan is to run a server via a network switch and 2 PC`s off that switch. Any and all advice welcome here as im confused all to hell here
Regards and thanks in advance

Here Ye Here Ye
Optus are currently supplying al users with the Nortel Network CM200 modems. Thease modems have a USB connector built into them so you can either use a USB cable from the modem to the computer (Not recomended) u could also you the crappy USB adapter optus supply for you (Not Recomended) or you chould have them install 2 nic's into your pc. Im sure the tech will give you a spare one i got 4 from him and a PCMCIA card lol.
I did ask at the time of the instlation why optus were not currently using the Motorola SB3100 and the reply i got was something like they are unsafe or a security risk to the network as hackers could get through. I havent got any proof about it tho but as a safe precaution install a firewall e.g. ZoneAlarm or Norton Firewall or something to procect yourself. There have also been recent firmware updates for the SB3100 so they may have fixed the problem bu now.
In my opinion buy yourself a decent quality router it will route all of your internet and you dont have to run a 'server pc' to get more than one mechine logged onto the internet. I am currently using a Linksys Broadband Cable/DSL Router its the four port version and it would have to have been one of the best things I ever brought for my pc.
Well thats my 2c worth Have Fun you with your new broadband connection :)
