Gaming Benchmarks:
Since the introduction of the K8 micro-architecture in September 2003 AMD has been dominating gaming benchmarks. Athlon 64 based CPU have been the gamer’s choice since then. It seems the time of AMD domination in this field is coming to an abrupt end. We can see that Core 2 Duo has a dramatically improved performance versus the 955XE: the X6800 system is delivering between 25% and 60% more frames per second than the Pentium D based system. Having seen this huge gain, it does not come as surprise that the X6800 is between 18% and 35% faster than the FX-62 as well; and even the lower clocked E6700 managed to stay ahead of the FX-62 in all 7 gaming benchmarks. We did run all games with a resolution of 1024 x 786 and anti-aliasing disabled. Higher resolutions and features like anti-aliasing put more emphasis on the GPU and reduce the impact of the CPU on frames per second. But even when running Quake 4 with a resolution of 1600 x 1200 and with anti-aliasing enabled, we could still see the X6800 leading the FX-62 by around 5%.
