The applications and games used in today's tests are the latest of what was available at the time of this analysis - links to demos and free trials are provided when applicable. For video card overclocking we use MSI's Afterburner software. While the latest beta was tested, the ability to adjust voltages was unable to be unlocked or adjusted. This may be related to the voltage control chip on the product itself, or a lack of compatibility with Afterburner. PowerColor's HD 6870 features a default core clock of 900 MHz, while the memory runs at 1050 MHz. Overclocking allowed us to increase the core to 1000 MHz and memory to 1200 MHz without any voltage adjustments for today's testing. Game Benchmarks: We have compiled a list of popular and graphically challenging games which include titles utilising Microsoft's DirectX 9, 10 and 11 API's for testing today; accompanied by 1920x1200 and 1680x1050 resolutions that are most commonly used by gamers based on Steam's hardware survey.
