Synthetic Benchmarks, Heat & Noise, Conclusions

Synthetic Benchmarks:

Benchmark: 3DMark Vantage and 3DMark 11
Score: GPU/Graphics Score Only - Higher is Better.

Noise and Temperature Results:
Noise measurements were taken with a digital sound meter approximately 3cm away from the video card fan, reducing the ability of other components such as the CPU or PSU fans to interfere with the final results. Software used for stressing was 3D Mark Vantage, looped until the sound level was stable and stopped rising.

Temperature readings were taken at an ambient temperature of approximately 22 degrees Celsius, on a open test bench with the fan set to auto. Load and idle temperatures were monitored by MSI's Afterburner utility. Software used for stressing was 3D Mark Vantage, looped until the temperature was stable and stopped rising.

Conclusions:
Vertex3D (VTX3D for short) offer with this card a sound set of accessories and maintains a fairly clean reference design, without too many extravagant stickers or wild colours. In saying that, it performs as any standard Radeon 6970 does by sticking to a reference set of clocks and fan profiles, as the majority of manufacturers have with initial product launches.

From the perspective of a new GPU launch, AMD have done a nice job on improving its performance over the previous Radeon HD 5870, while further expanding their range of technologies implemented for their cards and differentiating themselves from the competition. While I'm sure AMD had hoped for a smoother run due to the recent issues with TSMC, they managed to salvage what they could and come out with a card that is not only improves on key areas such as tessellation, but also allows for plenty of overclocking ability and extra performance for those willing to tinker.
