Test Setup, Gaming Benchmarks

Test Setup:
Today's test system consists of the hardware listed below, and as with all good testing a clean install is used and the latest Windows Updates are applied. The applications and games used in today's tests are the latest of what was available at the time of this analysis - links to demos and free trials are provided when applicable.

GPU-Z and MSI Afterburner screenshots (Left stock, Right overclocked):

The ASUS GTX 550 Ti DirectCU TOP features a default core clock of 975 MHz, shader of 1950 MHz and memory running at 2052 MHz (4104 MHz effective). This is a welcome increase from the standard core clock of 900 MHz, shader of 1800 MHz and memory of 2050 MHz (4100 MHz effective).

Overclocking allowed us to increase the core to 1070 MHz and memory to 2620 MHz (5240 MHz effective) making use of core voltage adjustments present in MSI's Afterburner software. And while we didn't have a Radeon HD 5770 to directly compare the two cards, the list of cards should provide a nice comparison to where it stands performance wise compared to pricier graphics solutions.

Game Benchmarks:
We have compiled a list of popular and graphically challenging games which include titles utilising Microsoft's DirectX 9, 10 and 11 API's for testing today; tested in 1920x1200 and 1680x1050 resolutions that are most commonly used by gamers based on Steam's hardware survey. ASUS' GTX 550 Ti DirectCU TOP and overclock results are highlighted in orange.
