Mounting the Evaporator Head & Extra Cooling
The evaporator head tube wasn’t exactly the longest one they made so mounting it was always going to be a little tricky. A longer tube would have made things easier but it all worked out fine.
Not much in the way of bends in the evaporator tube here. Straight out of the compressor down to the cpu socket was the only way.
Close up of the socket. Beautiful and square mounting but it was definitely tight.
What this really needed was some watercooling in the case as well. The northbridge and graphics card obviously needed watercooling.
I like the look of the Asetek revision 2 blocks and I’m a big fan of the quick connect fittings.
Filling the system. The little swiftech 80mm radiator with a respray of paint to match the rest of the case and eheim 1048 complete the system. Suffice to say we never used that saucepan again.
The watercooling filled and mounted. I ended up changing the fittings on the pump to Festo push fittings like the ones used on the waterblocks because they have a better hold under pressure than the first type.
To keep everything neat the plan was to put an adapter on the back of the case for the pump cord.
Quick bit of soldering. Heat shrink is great, it covers even the lousiest soldering jobs
Mounted and the cover keeps everything tidy.
Chillcontrol Mounting
How I was going to mount the chillcontrol was an issue I left up to the last minute. I just couldn’t decide how it was going to work. I didn’t wanted to leave it untidy mounted under the vapo tray like many do so it had to be mounted in the 3½ cage of the Lian Li.
The reset switch had to be spliced to run through the chill control.
Measuring up the cover to make the cutout. Measure twice cut once!
Cuts made and filed down. The holes for the mounting mechanism drilled.
Assembled with a perspex cover and the backplate. I wrapped the backplate with electrical tape to make sure no connection was made with any wires in the back of the chill control.
Woot! It works and I have to say I’m pretty happy with the way it turned out.
Tidying up
A lot of the case wiring has been routed behind the motherboard tray to keep it looking tidy.
I had a spare Lian Li case badge and wanting to add a little lighting to the case at some stage. I cut out a small square of perspex and drilled out a small half hole in the perspex not going all the way through. I added a led mount behind it and got a fairly nice result.
Backlit case badge.
I added a New-Q Equalizer in the top drive bay. Stripped it down and painted it an aluminium colour. The colour match is better than I expected. I will be adding some extra lighting to the case at some stage but at the moment that’s not what this is about.
Enough talk, here are a few finished glory shots:
