The Box, In The Box, The Unit, System Setup

Thanks to Corsair Solutions and OCAU for allowing me to test the SiliconDust HD HomeRun Dual, which is an Ethernet-connected TV tuner. The idea is, it allows you to watch TV on any computer on your network. There's more details in a PDF here.

The box looks very smart and informs me it contains a dual tuner that supports Windows (7/8), Mac and Linux allowing me to pause, watch and record live TV. The rear side of the box sports easy to read specs and the promise of watching TV anywhere in my house. The actual tuner unit requires a 5V/1A power adapter, Ethernet and TV cable - all of which are included. Wireless would be nice.

One side of the box reports the included contents, while the other side of the box simply says Watch Pause and Record. The seal has been broken on this box, probably due to it being a review unit used elsewhere.

Box Contents:
The dual unit is quite small and neatly packed. I still can’t get over how small the HD Home Run is.

All the bits are there except for the Driver CD. Time to read the quick start guide.

Quick Start Guide: Step 1, 2 and 3 got it. Step 4, I don’t have the driver disc, time to contact the supplier (maybe it was lost by the last reviewer).

System Setup:
I will be installing the HD HomeRun Dual between my TV outlet and my Billion 780N Router. The TV connection uses RG6 Quad Core Shielded coax and an Ethernet cable runs to the 1Gb port on the router. My PC will connect to the router via a wireless N/300 connection (15 metres away from the router). All firewalls will be disabled and no other TV Tuner cards are installed. My PC uses an Asus P67-B3 motherboard, with i7 2600 at stock speed and 16GB of Corsair RAM.
