The Results - how do they compare?
The Results!
Each unit tested for 20 minutes on a C366 @ 550MHz running Unreal flyby + SETI under Win98. Temp measured with MBM 4.09 on Aopen AX6BC-Pro. PC was left turned off with case open to cool for 10 minutes between runs. Temperatures shown are in Celcius.
Well, I'll leave you to draw your own conclusions from that. A couple of things are blatantly clear, though - having a decent cooler can make all the difference between stability and lockup. Also, those of you who are unconvinced about thermal paste best hurry out and buy some now. :)
Notice the difference between the retail units? Might be something to look out for. Anyone seen any different kinds of retail units on the C366's?
The real dissapointment was the twin-fan Ultra-Cool unit. It doesn't seem to be that much better than the retail units. I suspect this is due to the fans - they don't spin very fast (3300rpm) and the blades don't look very aggressively angled. I might experiment with putting a couple of the Y.S. Tech fans from the G/W CPM26503-32 on it.
As it seems the FDP-32 is the king at the moment (well, king of the ones we have here) the next logical step is to stick a peltier under one and see what we can get to.. stay tuned. :)
