Test Setup, Gaming Benchmarks

Test Setup:
Today's test system consists of the hardware listed below, and as with all good testing a clean install is used and the latest Windows Updates are applied. The applications and games used in today's tests are the latest of what was available at the time of this analysis - links to demos and free trials are provided when applicable.

Gainward's GTX 550 Ti GS features a default core clock of 1000 MHz, shader of 2000 MHz and memory running at 2200 MHz (4400 MHz effective). This is a healthy increase from the standard core clock of 900 MHz, shader of 1800 MHz and memory of 2050 MHz (4100 MHz effective).

Overclocking allowed us to increase the core to 1070 MHz and memory to 2580 MHz (5160 MHz effective) making use of core voltage adjustments present in MSI's Afterburner software (right image above). While we didn't have a Radeon HD 5770 to directly compare the two cards, the list of cards should provide an nice comparison to where it stands performance wise compared to pricier graphics solutions. It's also worth noting that the stock and overclocked speeds were higher than seen on the MSI card we reviewed earlier today.

Game Benchmarks:
We have compiled a list of popular and graphically challenging games which include titles utilising Microsoft's DirectX 9, 10 and 11 API's for testing today; tested in 1920x1200 and 1680x1050 resolutions that are most commonly used by gamers based on Steam's hardware survey. Gainward's GTX 550 Ti GS stock and overclocked results are highlighted in orange.
