Synthetic Benchmarks, Heat & Noise, Conclusions

Synthetic Benchmarks:

Noise and Temperature Results:
Noise measurements were taken with a digital sound meter approximately 3cm away from the video card fan, reducing the ability of other components such as the CPU or PSU fans to interfere with the final results. Software used for stressing was 3DMark Vantage, looped until the sound level was stable and stopped rising.

Temperature readings were taken at an ambient temperature of approximately 22 degrees Celsius, on a open test bench with the fan set to auto. Load and idle temperatures were monitored by MSI's Afterburner utility. Software used for stressing was 3DMark Vantage, looped until the temperature was stable and stopped rising.

Conclusions:
Right out of the gate Gainward shoot for an impressive factory overclock, with 1000MHz core clock and boosted memory speeds. Their non-reference cooling solution allows Gainward to maintain a extremely quiet load and idle noise signature considering the clocks and voltage utilised in this 'Golden Sample' design. On the other hand, this focus on maintaining low noise has resulted in an increased load temperature of the card, on par with more power hungry GTX 460 GS GLH. While the temperatures are not even close to the 95°C limitation specified by NVIDIA, it's not the coolest card we've had the pleasure of testing, however a reasonable sacrifice for silence in our opinion.

Overall Gainward offer a competitive product in terms of overclocking ability, acoustic operation as well as gaming performance compared to a reference GTX 550 Ti. And considering the overclocking abilities of NVIDIA's GF116 chip, Gainward have made a good choice in selecting clock speeds that leave enough room for users to tinker with the cards frequencies and voltages, adding even more value to your new graphics card purchase.
